A crochet rose bracelet pattern made from very little yarn

This crochet rose bracelet pattern makes a rolled rose on two green leaves, tied around the wrist with a soft cord. It takes about 3 metres of red yarn and 6 metres of green, one hook and a needle. Every stitch in it is a basic one, so it is a pretty small project you can make from what you already have.

The PDF is written as a calm, illustrated guide, and it moves through the bracelet one short chapter at a time. You never have a long stretch of instructions to get through, and each stage ends with something you can hold and compare with the photo.

The rose starts as a straight strip

The surprise in this design is that the rose is not worked in rounds. It is a long, narrow strip that you roll up and sew. You begin with a chain of 37 and work one row of ten V-stitches, which makes a lacy base. In the next row, each V-space receives a fan of double crochets, and each fan becomes a petal.

The first three petals are small, with 5 double crochets each, and they sit in the heart of the rose. The other seven are larger, with 7 double crochets each, and they form the open outer petals. Once the strip is finished, you cut a long tail of about 40 cm, roll it up starting from the small petals and sew through the base.

How this crochet rose bracelet pattern is laid out

The bracelet has three parts, and they are joined only at the end:

  • The rose: ten petals on a rolled strip, in red.
  • The leaves, make 2: each starts with a chain of 11, and the two bases are sewn together.
  • The cord: a firm green cord that ties around the wrist.

To finish, you fold the cord in half to find the middle and sew the joined leaves across it, going through several times so they cannot slide. The rose goes on top of that join, sewn through its base, the leaves and the cord with the long red tail.

The cord has one small trick

The cord is made by turning the work after every stitch: a quarter turn towards you, so the side loops face you. If it looks flat and twisted, the work was not turned. If it looks round and firm, it is right. That is easy to see, and the step photos show it clearly. Around 35 cm goes round an adult wrist and ties a bow, while 28 cm is plenty for a child.

What you get with this crochet rose bracelet pattern

The file has 12 pages, 19 numbered steps and 21 photos. It opens with the materials and a table of the stitches used, in US terms: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. The last page holds the complete written pattern in short form, so you can make a second bracelet without turning through the chapters, along with a small table for when something goes wrong.

If your rose feels loose in the middle, for instance, the first turns were rolled too loosely. Roll the three small petals tightly and put a stitch through the base after every half turn.

Yarn and tools for this crochet rose bracelet pattern

You need worsted weight (category 4) acrylic or cotton, and the Craft Yarn Council yarn weight chart shows what that category means if your label is different. Red is the classic choice for the rose, though the same pattern works in pink, cream or any colour you have left over. The materials list is short:

  • Red yarn for the rose, about 3 metres
  • Green yarn in the same weight for the leaves and the cord, about 6 metres
  • A US size G (4 mm) crochet hook, or a 3.5 mm hook for a smaller, firmer rose
  • A blunt yarn needle with a large eye, and scissors

Questions

How long should the cord be?

Around 35 cm is enough to go round an adult wrist and tie a bow, and 28 cm is plenty for a child. To be exact, measure round the wrist and add about 20 cm for the bow.

Do I need to match a gauge?

No. With worsted yarn and a 4 mm hook the rose is roughly 4 cm across. Thicker yarn gives a bigger rose and thinner yarn a daintier one.

How much yarn does it take?

About 3 metres of red and about 6 metres of green, so small leftovers are often enough.

Do you ship anything?

No. This is a digital PDF pattern. You download the file after checkout.
