About Crochet Blanket Co.
A blanket is the largest thing most people crochet. It is hundreds of hours and thousands of yards, and almost every guide about it leaves out the numbers you need before you start.
Why this site exists
Search for a crochet blanket pattern and you will find beautiful photographs and very little arithmetic. How many yards for a throw in worsted weight. What a newborn blanket actually measures. Whether your stitch count divides into the repeat. What the whole thing will cost before you commit a single skein.
Those questions get answered at the yarn shop, badly, or three rows in, expensively. Crochet Blanket Co. answers them on the page, before you buy anything.
What is in every guide
- Finished measurements for every size we mention, not just one.
- Yarn weight, total yardage and an approximate skein count.
- Hook size in both United States letter and metric.
- The stitch multiple, so you can check your foundation chain before row two.
- US terminology, stated explicitly, because UK terms name different stitches.
- An honest note when a figure is an estimate rather than a measurement.
How we treat other people’s patterns
Independent designers write most of the good free crochet patterns in the world. When we round them up we link to the designer’s own page and we do not reproduce their instructions here. Their work stays on their site, where the traffic and the credit belong.
What we add is the layer they usually cannot: comparable sizing, yardage worked to the same standard across every entry, difficulty judged consistently, and the cost of actually making the thing.
Who this is for
People who have made at least one thing and want the next one to finish to size. Complete beginners are welcome, and the easy section is written for them, but nothing here assumes you want to be talked down to.
What we will not do
- We will not publish a stitch count we have not checked.
- We will not claim to have made a blanket we have not made.
- We will not let an affiliate commission decide a recommendation.
- We will not republish a designer’s pattern to keep you on our page.
