Editorial Standards

Crochet is unforgiving of a wrong number. A bad yardage figure costs a reader money, and a bad stitch multiple costs them a weekend. This page sets out how we try to avoid both, and what we do when we get it wrong.

Where our reference figures come from

Yarn weight categories, standard hook conversions and recommended gauge ranges follow the published standards of the Craft Yarn Council, which is the reference the industry itself uses. Finished blanket dimensions follow the sizes commonly used by pattern publishers, and we state the measurement in inches and centimetres rather than relying on a name like throw, which means different things to different brands.

How yardage is calculated

Yardage estimates are derived from finished area, yarn weight category and stitch density, then rounded up. We publish the assumptions alongside the number so you can adjust them for your own tension instead of trusting a figure with no working shown.

Stitch multiples

Any pattern with a repeat has a multiple, and a foundation chain that does not divide correctly fails at the end of row one. Where we state a multiple we check it against the stitch structure rather than copying it from another site.

US and UK terminology

This site is written in United States crochet terminology. A US double crochet is a UK treble, and the same words name different stitches in the two systems. Every page that involves stitch names says which system it uses.

What we have and have not made

We are explicit about this because many craft sites are not. When a guide is a curated roundup of other designers’ patterns, we say so, and the assessment is based on the published pattern, its stated gauge and finished measurements, and the designer’s own notes. We do not claim to have personally crocheted every blanket we link to, and we will never write as though we did.

Photographs of finished blankets on this site are illustrative unless a caption says otherwise. A hero image at the top of a roundup shows the style under discussion. It is not a photograph of a specific linked pattern, and we never caption it as one. Where a designer’s own photograph is the right illustration, we link to their page rather than lifting the image.

Sources and links

Claims that rest on an external source carry an inline link to that source, not a list of names at the bottom. If we cannot link it, we do not assert it.

Commercial relationships

Some links earn a commission, disclosed in full in our affiliate disclosure. No commercial relationship has ever changed a recommendation, a ranking or a stated figure on this site, and none ever will.

Corrections

If a number here is wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will check it. Verified errors are corrected on the page and the updated date is changed so you can see it happened. We do not delete mistakes quietly.

Updates

Reference pages such as size charts and yarn guides are reviewed on a regular cycle because yarn lines are discontinued and prices move. The date on a page reflects the last time its figures were actually checked, not the last time a word was changed.
